Chengdu Panorama——The People, City, Enviroment and Industry: A New Paradigm of Chengdu

Looking back at the development of Chinese cities, after a series of high-speed urban constructions in the late 1990s and early 21st century, and as the new urbanization model has greatly increased the nation’s urbanization rate, urban developments are increasingly shifting from speed to quality, concurring urban planning’s transition into national spatial planning. On the one hand, the old town centres are going through progressive upgrading and regeneration. On the other, urbanization has brought population pressure to the old town and led to urban sprawl. The “Park City” was originally a top-down practical concept for urban development, which during its implementation, has also become the methodology for macro-scale concepts to be realised in grassroots communities, as the ecological environment has been improved, the space for public interaction has increased, and communities based on cultural activities have been formed with increased vitality. This issue centres on the practices of "Park City" in Chengdu, and via scopes into various types of spaces, analyses how a new urban image was constructed.
