The project locates on a 12466.6-square-meter site to the west of Gulangyu Road and to the south of Nanyinhe Road, on Chongming Island. With a total floor area of 8000 square meters, the building functions as an experiment center that also include programs such as office, conference and exhibition. The design promotes integrity of built space, human activities, environment and nature, while maintaining a legible and efficient program distribution. A clear zoning divides the building where the west wing is for experiment and the east is for office. Two open atriums interconnect the exhibition hall, conference center and dining hall on the ground floor, disrupting the long circulation on the one hand, and introducing green interfaces on the other. The interfaces include scenic view balconies and vegetated landscape balconies to diversify the experience within the office. The façade manifests a green design concept that is environmental, coherent, ecological, and also at the same time speaks a language for modern office buildings, with the use of extruded vertical stone cladding.
